Hatcher Park, which formally opened in September 2008, is open from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m., and offers a quarter-mile paved walking trail, playground equipment for children up to 12 years old and two picnic shelters. The park is located on 3.02 acres off Cowan Street.
The picnic shelters are available to rent at a cost of $25 for three hours. The lighted park has bathroom facilities on site. A future project by the Town will be the addition of horseshoe pits.
Hatcher Park is the result of a grant from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, which was matched by the Town of Lilesville. It was named for Mack and Pauline Hatcher, who graciously donated land that included Mr. Hatcher's home place. The rest of the park property was purchased by the Town. Mike & Debbie Goodwin donated land for parking.
The rustic building on site, used as a post office when the one uptown burned, was moved by Mike Goodwin to property adjacent to the Town Hall and is being renovated for future use.
